  PYRENEAN BROOM  
  Cytisus purgans   

     
 
Foliage:
the leaves grow directly on the branches after flowering. They appear at the same time as the fruit, a velvety seed pod.

Flowers:
one-year-old bare branches break into a multitude of richly scented bright yellow flowers from May to July.

  Size:
shrub around 1 metre tall

Habitat:
Stony heathland on siliceous soil, preferably on sunny, south-facing slopes.

  In the Pyrenees:
in the Ariège, Cerdagne, Capcir, Haute Catalogne, Andorra.

Typical companions:
dwarf juniper, wild cotoneaster, heather, northern bilberry, festuca eskia, anemone alpina sulphurea, amplexicaule buttercup.
