  ROE DEER 
  Caprus capreolus   

     
 
Size:
95 to 135 cm long. Height at withers: around 60 cm for a female, 70 cm for a male.

Weight:
from 16 to 35 kg.

Distinctive features:
a roe deer barks when someone enters its territory. Though solitary in nature, it can live in small herds in farming regions.

  Reproduction:
the female gives birth in the spring, usually to twins.

Food:
roe deer eat mostly leaves but their varied menu includes: mushrooms, acorns and beechnuts.

Habitat:
forests.

In the Pyrenees:
roe deer are spreading throughout the Pyrenees. They are thus competing against Pyrenean species such as the izard.
